Financial In Market The New Jersey Chapter of the Sierra Club and Save Sandy Hook, a grassroots group formed to preserve Fort Hancock at Sandy Hook, have joined forces to oppose the proposal by Wassel Realty Group, trading as Sandy Hook Partners, to lease Fort Hancock from the National Park Service for an estimated sixty (60) year term.

Oriental Trading This project is an outrageous example of our government giving away public land for private purpose, said Jeff Tittel, New Jersey Chapter Director. He added, this tactic is part of the Bush administrations strategy to give away our national heritage whether its Sandy Hook or Yosemite.

Financial Forex Forex Software Sandy Hook Partners hopes to execute a plan that would encompass anywhere from 32 to 78 buildings on the Fort Hancock portion of the Gateway National Recreation Area. The fort is a National Historic Landmark and the site of the countrys oldest operational lighthouse, the Sandy Hook Lighthouse. Renovations would bring a bar and caf, training and conference centers, and at least one bed and breakfast to one of the last uncommercialized stretches of land on the Jersey Shore. Sierra Club strongly opposes any efforts on the part of the National Park Service to enter into a privatization contract. New Jersey sorely lacks preservation of historic properties and open space and now the National Park Service has given away a free ticket to ruin one of the states most precious parks, said chapter Conservation Director, Dennis Schvejda.

Trading The National Park Service has agreed to relax the original requirements for accepting proposals by allowing Sandy Hook Partners additional time to gather funding and work in phases. Though a final development scheme has not been decided upon by Sandy Hook Partners, they assert that there will be no environmental or traffic impacts to the surrounding areas. Here we have a federal institution charged with managing our parks for the benefit of the public, and now they are bending over backwards to please one developer, added Schvejda. The plan, though being touted by the developer as adaptive reuse, does not include any designs for maintaining the character of the buildings or the history of Fort Hancock. What was once a military establishment built to protect our young country will now be off limits to the public Tittel said.

Trading Financial System The proposed lease between the National Park Service and Sandy Hook Partners is expected to be signed this month. Sierra Club has informed Senators Lautenberg and Corzine, Congressional Representative Pallone, and the National Park Service of their opposition to this lease and has urged the National Park Service to walk away from negotiations. Save Sandy Hook continues to garner resolutions from surrounding towns opposing the plan.
