Latest Japanese Sales Data
Financial In Market Media Create has released the latest Japanese game sales charts and they are unsuprisingly typical, with the PS2 dominating in the software sales followed by the Game Boy Advance. And of course, no sign of any GameCube games.
On the top 10 for the week of February 16 through February 22, only three GBA titles were visible. The highest at number 5 being Pokemon: Fire Red, followed at number 6 by Famicon Mini: Super Mario Bros. and ending with Pokemon: Leaf Green at number 8.
Hardware totals show that the Game Boy SP fared best with about 57% of the market share. PS2 followed with 37%, as for the GameCube, well, its quite sobering when it;s now selling at just about an equal rate to the original Game Boy Advance (non-SP) hardware at a measely 5%.
I think its becoming easier to understand when a developer like Capcom ask Nintendo to let them release a game like Killer 7 on the PS2 in Japan and Europe, two continents where Nintendo just cannot seem to attain any solid footing.
In the next 48 hours, there is no fundamental data expected to come out of the Japanese market. Later, on Thursday, the news suggests that Japanese Industrial Production and the Household Confidence will remain low for the foreseeable future. Today, traders should keep an eye on the U.S. Retail Sales data as higher then forecasted printing might pull the U.S. currency up against the JPY.
