Financial In Market A state senator is urging the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission to repair a Berry's Creek tide gate that is believed to cause recurrent lowland flooding here and in East Rutherford.
Oriental Trading Sen. Paul Sarlo, D-Wood-Ridge, sent a letter to commission Executive Director Robert Ceberio late Wednesday night, asking the commission to apply for a 24-hour emergency waiver through the state Department of Environmental Protection to fix the tide gate.

Trading "I don't think the work that needs to be performed is all that expensive," Sarlo said. "It's an emergent situation from a public safety standpoint."

Day Trading East Rutherford Mayor James Cassella said repairing the gate would help alleviate heavy flooding in the borough that occurs underneath a NJ Transit trestle on Route 17.

Fortune Make Option Trading Meadowlands Commission spokesman Chris Gale said that Sarlo's petition is now up for consideration by the commission's board, and an engineering analysis of the tide gate is underway. Commission Chairwoman Susan Bass Levin will bring it before the board at the commission's Feb. 25 meeting, Gale said.
Science Of Financial Market Gale wouldn't comment on when engineering analysis would be finished or when the gate would be repaired.
Future Trading "Flooding is a historical problem in the Meadowlands District," Gale said. "This is especially true when high tides, heavy rain and or melting snow combine ... though the NJMC helped install several tide gates in the 1980s, a strategy for maintenance has not been worked out."
Financial Sales Services By late this afternoon, the lowland areas of the two boroughs could receive up to three inches of rain, said Nancy Figueroa, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Upton, N.Y.

Financial Services Trading Rutherford Mayor Bernadette McPherson said the borough's Department of Public Works has been clearing ice and snow from the borough's storm drains, which empty into the Passaic River on the west side of the borough and the Hackensack River on the borough's east side.
