Truth in Labeling for Monofilament?
The European Fishing Tackle Trade Association wants all monofilament lines to carry a sticker, which, according to the British-based Tackle Trade News (April), would assure each line is "true to the breaking strength listed on the label." More than 90 percent of all lines EFTTA checked failed to test as claimed. Under the plan, lines that test accurately would carry an "EFTTA-approved" label. Henry Aiken, one of Europe's largest line manufacturers and owner of the Ultima brand, expressed surprise that individual countries had never required more truth in labeling: "Such extremes of obvious misrepresentation would not go unpunished for long in any other industry I know."
